Sofia:poetics
is organised by
the Bulgarian Literature Foundation
and is being held
in cooperation with
Sofia Municipality

SOFIA:POETICS is the only festival for contemporary poetry in Bulgaria.
And not only that.

SOFIA:POETICS seeks poetry in all the arts.

SOFIA:POETICS brings them together in an act of love.

SOFIA:POETICS is a unique performance, whereupon you can see remarkable Bulgarian and international artists.

You can touch them, too. We do not acknowledge barrieres. There are no boundaries. What boundary could stop a song?

SOFIA: POETICS is music, all different kinds of it – rock, postrock, alternative, drum & base, techno, trip-hop, ambinet, jazz. Krzysztof Penderecki, Alfred Schnittke and Arvo Part are amongst the great experimenters in contemporary classical music that inspire us.

SOFIA:POETICS is, in a sense, a theatrical event. And yes, we long for Bob Wilson and Peter Brook. We will prduce Bulgarian theatre and invite theatre from around the world to come over here. We will produce dance theatre and cinema, and all sorts of Bulgarian art, for as long as it can stand on its own feet without shame.

In 2008 on stage at SOFIA:POETICS before you performed 32 poets, 15 bands, solo performers and DJs, several actors and dancers, and a French-speaking writer and director with a fine sense of humour and a decent pile of awards in his closet.

Next year a single day won’t suffice for SOFIA:POETICS. So prepare for a music fest with considerable foreign particpation somewhere on the greens just outside the capital, expreimental cinema, heavy emphasis on the visual arts, contemporary dance and all else that can tempt the mind.

For SOFIA:POETICS is for the young – the young in age, the young in spirit. And it has set itself twin goals: to present only quality productions to please the connoiseurs of culture AND to attract new admirers with its originality and informality.

And last, but not least – SOFIA:POETICS explores not only the poetry of the arts, but also the poetry of the city. Our city is Sofia and, after Boris’ Garden, we will continue to discover new places for art inside it.
